About me
I’m in the second year of a PhD in Health Informatics at the University of Manchester, as part of the Manchester Digital Pain Manikin project. My PhD research is focused on the ways pain manikin data is summarised and analysed, and how we can progress those methods to make better use of the spatial data available from pain manikin reports. I’m currently on a four month interruption to work as a research assistant on the HYPO-CHEAT project. I’m also postgraduate rep in the division of Informatics, Imaging and Data Science, and a proud member of my UCU branch.

Education
I completed my BEng in Software Engineering at Aberystwyth University, and my MSc in Digital Biology at the University of Manchester. For my MSc dissertation project I applied the deep learning-based unlearning of dataset bias approach described by Dinsdale et al in their 2021 paper to ECG datasets from multiple hospitals to create a more generalisable model with improved performance on data outside the domain of the training data.
Palestine
I’m involved in UMUCU’s Palestine activists network, which is calling on the University of Manchester to cut ties with companies and institutions complicit in the genocide of Palestinians. We have various upcoming talks and events, which you can find out about on the UMUCU twitter account or on my blog. You may also be interested in the University and College Workers for Palestine network and the Manchester Universities Palestine Coalition. You can also sign an open letter in support of an undergraduate student suspended from the University of Manchester for his Palestine activism.
Other projects
I’m involved in organising The PRIDE Library, a new queer-led library and community resource project. I run a regular workshop on research skills and data analysis for activists, with the goal of empowering activists and community organisers outside of academia to perform research that’s relevant to them.
